Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) is a hydrophilic crystalline admixture used to create permanently waterproof concrete.
KIM lowers the permeability of concrete, and is used in place of surface applied waterproofing membranes. By stopping the transmission of water through concrete, KIM adds durability and longevity to concrete by protecting it against chemical attack and corrosion of reinforcing steel.
Krystol technology, an admixture for concrete, reacts with moisture to form insoluble needle-shaped crystals that fill capillary pores and micro-cracks, enhancing concrete durability by blocking pathways for water and waterborne contaminants.
Unlike other concrete waterproofing solutions that rely on free lime, which depletes over time, KIM chemically reacts with water and unhydrated cement particles. This ensures that any moisture introduced over the lifespan of the concrete foundation will initiate crystallization, providing permanent waterproofing and resistance against hydrostatic pressure. Unlike a traditional waterproofing membrane, Krystol technology integrates into the concrete itself, delivering a long-lasting solution.
- Lowers the cost of waterproofing
- Helps to shave weeks off of construction schedules
- Reduces the cost of maintenance and repairs
- Increases reliability and quality control
- Increases revenues with a larger building footprint
- Safe for contact with potable water and Certified by NSF to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 Drinking Water System Components – Health Effects
- Winner of the Most Innovative Product Award at World of Concrete in 2003
KIM is recommended for all concrete that will be subject to water pressure and can be used in precast, cast-in-place and shotcrete applications:
- Below grade parking
- Basements
- Sewage plants
- Swimming pools
- Dams
- Foundation walls
- Footings
- Slabs
- Pits
- Water containment tanks

Krystol Internal Membrane™ (KIM®)
KIM is a hydrophilic crystalline admixture used to create permanently waterproof concrete.
Waterproofing Structural Shotcrete Without A Membrane
Structural shotcrete is becoming a preferred concreting method in foundation construction, building tanks, parking garages and many other structures because it’s up to 50% faster than canventional cast in place.
Protect Marine Structures with Crystalline Waterproofing
Use the right product and increase the lifespan of infrastructure in harsh marine environments.
Smart Concrete®
The most effective concrete waterproffing system in the world. Kryton’s Smart Concrete® solutions contain proprietary technologies thet allow concrete to respond to its environment to rotect itself against water penetration and corrosion, or erosion and abrasion.
Precast Concrete Waterproofing
Krystol Internal Membrane™ (KIM®) is a hydrophilic crystalline admixture used to create permanently waterproof concrete.
Construction and Repair of Concrete Tunnels
Construct watertight tunnel that last. Tunnels can be subjected to heavy traffic and vibration, temperature changes, corrosion damage and freeze thaw cycles which affect the tunnel’s durability.
Construction and Repair of Concrete Water Containment Structure
Construct watertight water containment structures that last. Take the risk out of creating watertight tanks from the begining by using Kryton’s Kryston Internal Membrane™ (KIM®) admixture and Krystol Waterstop Joint System.
