Crystalline Technology

The original Crystalline Technology with over 50 years of worldwide experience

Crystalline Technology

Kryton invented the world’s first and only permanent crystalline waterproofing admixture. Today, Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) is the most trusted crystalline waterproofing brand in the world.

How crystalline technology works

Kryton’s crystalline technology starts a catalytic reaction with water and unhydrated cement particles at a chemical level, forming insoluble needle-like crystals that penetrate capillary pores and micro-cracks in concrete. This process effectively seals pathways, preventing water and contaminants from entering and providing lasting waterproofing protection.

By preserving concrete’s permeability, crystalline technology helps reduce long-term maintenance costs and minimizes the need for carbon-intensive repairs or replacements throughout the structure’s lifespan.

How is Kryton different

Unlike other crystalline products that rely on free lime – which diminishes over time – Krystol reacts with water and unhydrated cement particles to create insoluble needle-like crystals.

Difference in chemical compositions

Any moisture that comes into contact with the concrete over its lifespan will trigger crystallization, providing lasting waterproofing protection.

Waterproofing performance comparison

To highlight the differences between Kryton’s Crystalline Technology and competitive crystalline and membrane protection, the following schematics illustrate three critical performance factors: Permeability Resistance, Self-Sealing Capability, and Shrinkage & Crack Reduction. These key properties determine long-term durability, effectiveness, and show why Kryton has the best performance and overall protection against water damage.

Permeability resistance

Permeability resistance capabilities

KRYTON technology has higher permeability resistance at the equivalent dosage.

Тhe only waterproofing system that passed the Hawaii University 10-year test

University of Hawaii evaluated performance of Corrosion Inhibiting Admixtures in a Marine Environment

Reinforced concrete panels were exposed to a tidal zone in the Pacific Ocean and resistance to corrosion was evaluated over 10 years.

Kryton performed well over a 10 year period and was recommended by the University of Hawaii to be used in order to reduce corrosion in marine environment.
